Myristica fragrans

A warming, aromatic grahi (absorbent) seed that pacifies kapha and vata and calms the mind. Used for diarrhoea, insomnia, poor appetite and as an aphrodisiac, but toxic in excess.

  • Rasa (taste): bitter, pungent
  • Virya (energy): heating
  • Vipaka (post-digestive): pungent
  • Guna (qualities): light, unctuous, sharp

  • premature ejaculation

Contraindications & cautions

  • pregnancy
  • high doses (psychoactive/toxic)
  • pitta excess

  • CNS depressants
  • MAO-relevant caution at high doses
