What it involves
After purification, the person enters a purpose-built, draught-free chamber (kuti) and stays in seclusion following strict diet, conduct and rasayana formulations for an extended period; the controlled environment is said to yield the deepest rejuvenation.
Traditionally used for
- deep rejuvenation in the healthy and prepared
- restoration after debility (when strong enough)
- longevity and vitality regimens
Contraindications & cautions
- the frail or those unable to tolerate seclusion and discipline
- acute illness
- without prior purification
- psychological unsuitability for isolation
Questions to ask a practitioner
- Am I strong enough for the indoor method versus the outdoor (vatatapika) method?
- What discipline and duration are required?
Evidence notes
The more intensive of the two classical rasayana methods; feasible only in a suitable facility with full supervision.
